Download your free sampler from the app store (search for Practical Photography), or click the link: itunes.apple.com Slotting in between the D300 and D3 in the Nikon range, the D700 is more closely related to the D3. It packs in the same groundbreaking full-frame 12.1Mp sensor and much of the D3s technology, making their specifications very similar. At almost £1000 less than the D3, though, and in a smaller, more compact body, its going to be a tempting proposition to many, but is it worth the £1999 asking price double that of the excellent D300?

  • Nikon D700 wont turn off

My Nikon D700 sometimes just wont turn off.... this video gives a bit more details about it and shows it not ... well....turning off! Its just over 3 months old. An authorised UK Nikon repair centre couldn't 'find the problem', and tell me that Nikon apparently don't recognize it as a known issue. I have found on some photos discussion forums other people with this issue - but they are abroad, in the US. Nikon tell me they chose not to share info between repair centres in different countries - and so this issue is an unkown to the UK lot and as the repair centre couldn't re-create the problem. It seems its just my tough luck.... I've had the camera back a few weeks. Only used about 5 times... its happened 3 times. What this says about the testing it received at the authorized repair centre, well.... I am sure they did the best they could. Hopefully this video will allow someone in Nikon to see yep there is a problem and fix it, or replace the body. It will also hopefully allow others out there who might have the same issue, to draw attention to this issue occurring in other d700s. I love my camera. I just wish it worked all the time.

  • Nikon D700

  • Canon 5D Mark II + 24-105 Lens Review and Comparison Nikon D700

ibuycameras.net reviews the Canon 5D Mark II and the Canon 24-105 FL Lens. This is a great full frame body that shoots very large images. It is smaller and lighter than the D700, but not as rugged. The camera shoots 1080P Video at 30fps, which is what Hollywood movies are shot at. If you are video shooter this camera is the way to go. The Nikon D700 does not even shoot video. The 24-105 lens is very sharp and only exhibits some slight vignetting at the widest focal length. With the lens stopped down to over F/5.6 I didn't notice this as much. The lens renders colors beautifully and the images seem to really POP. The lens is F/4, so a wider aperture lens would be better if portrait work is your primary goal. This lens can blur backgrounds if the background is not too close to the subject. This is a lot easier to do with the 24-70 2.8, at 70mm @ 2.8. As a travel lens there is no better lens for the full frame DSLR. This lens really will cover 90% of most peoples shooting. Nikon does not have a lens in there system that can compete with this zoom lens. The closest lens Nikon makes is the 24-120 and it is known to be a poor performer, and it cost more than the Canon. The camera feels good in your hands and it shoots very high quality images. The files are large so if storage space is a concern you will most definitely need to upgrade to more space. This is a great time to get a full frame DSLR. The new 5D Mark III was just released and the image quality is better, to a point ...
