Canon Legria HF M 31 Zoom Tests
Edited with Final Cut Express, exported in 1280x720, de-interlaced the source video. The weather on this recording was less than perfect and I think the result is quite decent. I am very happy with the quality that I am seeing. Now I just need to find a very good workflow that lets me create decent web-video (de-interlaced), but also lets me create standard definition movie dvds... First HD Demo (Canon Legria HF M 31)
There is absolutely nothing brilliant in here, it is really all rather rubbish, I am afraid to admit. However as I was looking at so many YouTube videos when deciding on what camera to buy, I thought I ought to add my own shots to the collection. All the scenes in this movie were shot in automatic mode and tomorrow I am thinking of making use of the manual mode. Let's hope I don't screw it up and can learn as much as possible before my next trip. The video was thrown together with Final Cut Express and the most difficult part was to get the deinterlacing done to avoid those horrid lines...

Canon VIXIA HF M31 HD Video Camera Test - Meets California King Snake
I just purchased a new Canon Vixia HF M31 Camera so I can produce better quality video. This video was shot with the camera straight out of the box. All settings were default. I will have some more time to shoot another video over the next few days and plan to do a review if there is some interest. This camera is new on the market and there is not a lot of information available on it yet. Let me know if there is something you would like to see tested and I will attempt it. The audio is from the built in mic. No snakes were harmed in the making of this video. The California King snake in this video is actually a pet. Thanks for watching.

Test Video for Canon Vixia HF M31
Test Video for a Canon Vixia HF M31 camcorder. I messing with the settings while filming so that accounts for some of the shakiness and blurriness. I had it set to Dramatic Stabilization, but I should have probably had it set to normal. See for your self and see what you think. I was recording in the HD setting but some of the quality may have been lost while importing into imovie and processing the movie for HD. It works great with imovie 09. Don't worry all you PC users, it comes with software for you too.

Canon HF-M31 HD AVCHD 30p frame rate test imovie 09' export
I just bought this camera and was testing it with a 30p frame rate instead of 60i. 60i gives you interlaced footage and I work on a mac which doesn't really support AVCHD footage. It uses its own conversions which basically takes interlaced footage and makes it look like garbage. I decided to shoot in 30p and it provided a much better end result which is still HD quality, especially given that this is a $400 camera. I also turned off the dynamic picture steadiness control. I was shaky and apologize for the crappy shaking! This is only a test!
