• KODAK Playsport Zx5, 1080p shockproof camera, review at CES 2011

The first edition of the Kodak Playsport was video camera was impressive. In 2011, there has been a few upgrades to the camera. Here is a video blog review of the new Zx5 Playsport, expected to be released in spring 2011 for $179, in red, green, white, black and aqua. my thoughts: The first PlaySport was a legit competitor to FlipVideo cameras, especially since the Playsport is waterproof and shockproof. These new updates, which includes auto-focus, makes it one of my favorite hand-held vid-cams store.kodak.com

  • Flip UltraHD Vs Kodak ZX5 Vs Sony Bloggie

Outdoor test of Flip UltraHD vs Kodak ZX5 vs Sony Bloggie. Flip immediately disappointed me as the image stabilization seems non existent and the 720p is almost laughable and barely better than standard definition. Yes I know they are no longer in production, probably a good thing! The Kodak ZX5 picture was not bad in the outdoor test, though the audio has a lot to be improved upon. I think RealPlayer streamed better audio over 56k modems in 1996. It is mono to boot! the picture is pretty close to maximum contrast though, which may look ok on a computer, but it is WAY beyond broadcast limits. While this can be worked on in post sometimes the extreme ends don't play nice to correction. One huge advantage the ZX5 had over the others though was its macro focus. Good luck getting extreme closeups with the other cameras! The Bloggie had a nice wide angle picture. Straight up the contrast SEEMED little flat compared to the ZX5, but everything was in broadcast limits making this a better choice if you are going to be using your videos other places besides online. The audio was also much better than the ZX5, and seemed to cut down on the wind noise more than the other 2 cameras. There does seem to be a clicking noise, and it seems to get louder as the picture gain starts to increase in darker areas. I am not sure if this is normal or if I just have a defective camera. The image stabilization on this camera also beats the others. Overall I like the bloggie the best if I can figure ...

  • Kodak Playsport Zx5 SAMPLES!

www.fzrphotography.com http Some sample videos shot with the Zx5, with some comparison video from the Zx3. Did some underwater shots too. Take note of the water being stuck in the Zx3's mic, even a while after being out of the water. The mic pickup, color, LCD and EIS are noticeably better on the Zx5...

  • Kodak Playsport Zx5: Underwater Test | Swimming Pool

In this video I am testing the Kodak Playsport Zx5. This camera was designed to be waterproof up to 10ft underwater. Includes an underwater correction mode which automatically adjusts for the low light conditions that are typical in underwater situations, allowing you to take better videos or photos underwater. I noticed after transferring the video(s) to my laptop, I could hear a high pitched sound throughout most of the video. Not sure what this could be. I will do further testing in the future.

  • Kodak Playsport ZX3 versus ZX5

Both Playsport models were set at 1080P mode at 30 fps. Overall conclusion - While the ZX5 sports some new features (but leaves out the HDMI cable unless you register the camera with Kodak and pay a shipping fee), I still think you'll get a better value for the ZX3 at a much lower price. You may notice that the ZX5 picks up more sound compared to the ZX3 outdoors with the birds chirping in the background, but it seems like the reproduction of my voice sounds cleaner on the ZX3 (especially important for me when I watch the footage with a good audio system) besides having better image quality than the ZX5. It's your call on which is better. On an added note regarding the ZX5's internal battery, even though you do get more life on a full charge compared to the ZX3's detachable battery (nearly double set at 1080P), replacement batteries are inexpensive from third party manufacturers which makes the ZX3 more flexible, especially during long video sessions where you may not have the luxury (or time) to recharge the ZX5's internal battery everywhere. Update (Aug. 26, 2011) - I'm learning that any camera that uses the more aggressive mp4 (ie Kodak ZX5) or AVCHD format is subject to a compromise in sound quality compared to the less-compressed .mov (ie Kodak ZX3) and MPEG-2 formats. By sound quality, I mean accuracy of reproducing natural sound. The biggest test is by recording bass at relatively loud volume levels (ie concerts) without distortion. I've noticed that most ...
