  • Is my B+W UV filter fake?

Hello, I purchased a B+W UV filter from eBay, and it cost a total of $42.95. When I received it, I took it out of the case and immediately felt something strange going on. It squeaks when you apply pressure, even a little. I have another B+W filter (62mm) and that thing is the most solid filter I've ever owned. The 77mm one I got, however, is the opposite. Despite it being the larger filter, it weighs in at 30 grams (or 1.1 oz) while the 62mm I have is 33 grams (or 1.2 oz) The box does have the B+W hologram sticker on it, but the bottom wasn't sealed when I received it, which can allow the seller to just put a fake filter in a real box. Any ideas? The one I received does not feel like brass at all. I've searched around and read that some of them are made of alloy instead, but I'm not sure about their claims. Also, on my 62mm filter, it has writing on the inner portion on it, while it doesn't on the 77mm. What do you guys think?

  • Hoya Multi Coated UV Filters

www.beachcamera.com Hoya Multi Coated UV Filters absorb the ultraviolet rays which often makes outdoor photographs hazy and indistinct. These popular filters are renowned for their ability to minimise reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting. The result is an average light transmission of over 97 percent, giving sharp contrast and well balanced color. HOYA HMC filters are recommended for enhancing the performance of today's multicoated lenses. They may also serve as a permanent lens protector.

  • Sony a560 with Graduated Goja P-series filters and others.

To try out color split filters you may want to start with inexpensive ones. I used DSLR Sony a560 camera with Sigma DC 18-200mm lens, P-series Cokin original filter holder with 62mm adapter ring and Goja Graduated filters (Grey, Yellow, Blue and Red). They are about 0.4 (or 2 stops), I think. I also used the Cokin 0.3 Warming (full) filter, Murumi ND8 split filter and Sigma UV. Little correction: I used not a CPL but Hoya linear polarizer. Surprisingly, it worked but I'm going to get a CPL now.

  • Polarizing Filter Canon 60D Demo (Hoya)

My first 1080p video! This is a test of the Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing filter (wideangle version). As you can see it gets rid of reflections and darkens skies...which is all you can ask for from a polarizer, really. I almost never shoot outside without one on my camera (inside they are, of course, useless, and serve only to darken your picture). Camera: Canon 60D Lens: Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS

  • Field test: Neewer 52mm ND Fader Neutral Density Adjustable Variable Filter (ND2 to ND400)

This was just under $14 on Amazon. I didn't see any information on it anywhere, so I put up some test footage. I'm basically just going from the MIN and turning to where it isnt over exposed. Its a good way to maintain a given shutter speed, aperture and ISO. I also have a knockoff Hoya Pro 1 UV filter in between the camera and nd filter. I know, spend $$$$ on a camera and $$$ on a lens, then $ on everything else. But I need to experiment to see what I really need, and can always upgrade to better stuff later. The video is kinda shaky, as I started the video 7 miles into my hike, and the bugs started attacking me. Too tired to break out the monopod. Removed audio as its either just wind, bugs zipping around, or me cursing at said bugs. Using YT music to bypass the copyright hassle. Until I'm better at filming, this ND filter is good enough, especially for the $$. The best accessory I have for the 60D, aside from the 3" Carry Speed LCD View Finder. Video taken at Rancho San Antonio, top of PG&E Trail.
