Lensbaby Part 2 - how to take a photo

How to use a LensBaby - in this instance lets take a bit of time and go through the motions slowly. When using a completely manual lens like this you need to use a bit of common sense and I strongly recommend a tripod so that once you've selected the sweet spot (area of the image you want sharp) you can lock off the shot and know the composition is taken care of. Now all you'll need to do is manage aperture to vary the size of the Lensbaby's sweet spot. Do you want a softer effect or something more dramatic? Once you've made all your creative choices - you can set the shutter speed to get the exposure right and you're good to go! I love my Lensbaby - it's so very simple to use and I can create some powerful imagery with it too. This is a pretty simple demonstration of what a Lensbaby does so you can get your head around the settings and mechanics of this simple manual lens. Lensbaby Part 1 - What is a Lensbaby?

I use a Lensbaby for some of my commercial work because i love the way I can channel a viewer's attention to a specific area of an image by using one. But what is a Lensbaby? A Lensbaby is a small manual lens which not only focuses front to back - it also has a sweet spot of focus which you can move around the image horizontally and vertically. You can even expand and contract the size of the sweet spot to get the look you want. In this vid I'm going to introduce you to the concept - and in part 2 we'll get out and begin shooting some images with one. The Lensbaby I use is the 'Composer' which has a simple locking ring so you can set up a shot and lock the sweet spot in place. At the time of writing this Lensbaby have just updated their range with a pro version of the composer and a non bending lens for fish-eye photography. There's also one called a Muse which doesn't lock in place. We've got a seroes on using a Lensbaby on our site at www.photographycourses.biz as well as many more camera lens related videos.
