• Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4 Macro OS HSM for Canon "jumpy" issue (off camera) (part 2)

photography-on-the.net In response to the rather rude comments from this video: www.youtube.com Part 1 here: www.youtube.com Basically, this lens is superb. Great focus speed, macro capability, zoom range...despite being a variable aperture lens (as opposed to a fixed aperture zoom lens), this is probably the perfect walkaround lens. This "jumpy" issue that can be seen through the viewfinder, in live view, and is recorded on video, is the only caveat. I thought it was something normal and I had to deal with until I searched POTN (Photography on the net, a Canon forum) with specific keywords, and the thread at the top of the description popped up. Sounded exactly like the issue I was having. A Google web search yields similar threads. Not plenty, but enough considering the specific keywords. I took it to Sigma in Long Island, and they seemed to not even address or notice the issue in their testing. Looks like I'll have to bring it back to them. Which is a shame because I am probably going to have to pay twice :( In this video, I am using the T2i to film the performance of the lens on my main workhorse camera (which is also the camera I first noticed the issue on), my Canon 40D. I used both the onboard/built-in microphone on the T2i to record the noises made from the lens, as well as a Sennheiser MKE-300 shotgun mic to record the noises as well. You can clearly see and hear the issue. Note: Lens doesn't exhibit this behavior when the camera is off and you're looking through ...

Which is a shame because I am probably going to have to pay twice :( In this video, I test the performance of the lens in a quick video where the jumpiness can be seen readily, as in the video I linked to up above. Sorry for the wind noise, I was standing in front of a fan and forgot to turn it off. part 2 here: www.youtube.com Note: Lens doesn't exhibit this behavior when the camera is off and you're looking through the viewfinder. But it does "jump/shake" when the camera is powered on, and again when the camera is powered down, regardless of OS setting ...
