Rokinon 85mm F1.4 Lens for Sony Alpha Unboxing
A fully manual lens for my Sony A55. I am still trying to get used to the full manual without the focus sensor or what ever you call it lighting up to tell you that the lens is focuses. It is a really heavy piece of glass and lens combo, but really feels balanced on the DSLT. I love the wide aperature at f1.4. It is almost too wide on a sunny day because sometimes, I have to stop down to get the shutter speed away from 1/4000 of a sec. Sometimes even down to 2.8 to get a 1/2500 shutter speed. I love the way this lens feels, smooth focus ring. I really thing I received a good lens this time around and what a great deal! Thanks for watching!!!

It's fully manual focus, with zero electronics, so it's able to provide optics that compare well against Nikon's equivalent, at about 20% of the cost. I use the 85mm for aerial photography, with 20x30 enlargements. So for those of you who are hung up on the build quality, think of it this way. Do you really want to spend (seven) times as much on a lens that is built better, but gives virtually the same performance? Why not spend the money on travel and shoot some great shots?What you may not realize about the 85mm is that it's super compact. Mounted on the Sony A65, it's no larger than a small wide angle lens, yet it yields a view akin to a 130mm. Talk about stealth mode. I have a collection of Minolta, Tamron, Tokina and Sony glass for the alpha mount. This little wonder lens is a great addition to your lens arsenal, especially if you don't want to break the bank. It is light in terms of weight and largely of plastic construction, including a plastic lens mount. But this is to be expected in a lens at this price point so I have not deducted a star for this. Obviously, you need some care when handling the lens. However, in terms of image quality it shines. How so? Well, even wide open, this lens is sharp and quite contrasty - in the centre, very sharp, and even in the corners, pretty damn sharp. Corners sharpen up quikcly when the lens is stoppped down just a little bit to f3.5 or f4. Bokeh is very nice (quality of the rendering of out of focus parts of the image)- very easy on the eye and not too harsh. It is a fine lens for portrait work as it becomes 127.5mm on APS-C cameras like the a700, a55, a65 and a77, which is an almost perfect focal length for portraits as long as though you are not shooting in a small room/confined space, where a shorter focal length might work better.
