Sliding & panning - first day with the indiSLIDERpro
My newest toy has arrived... :) www.indifocus.com A (24 inch) indiSLIDERpro with fluid head came in the mail and I took it for a fast spin. I'm very pleased with it, especially because all I had before was a tripod with a head for still photography. Doing any fancy movements with something like that is kinda' hard. My newest problem is how to slide, pan and focus at the same time Pricewise, this must be my best investment so far... I got the 'short' version of the indiSLIDERpro (at 24 inches), since the longer one will demand a very sturdy tripod. I'm still using my small (but very flexable) Velbon Ultra LUXi L tripod. It should be fine for now. There's no Magic Bullet Looks in this just a little extra contrast and some sharpening. I had my HG10 on manual exposure to avoid the sky from burning out (exposure turned down a bit). The graduated Cokin P filter also helped.

A quick completely unprofessional look at the Velbon Ultra Maxi Mini tripod. I hadn't heard of it until I went looking for a really small tripod that I could fit into my carry around camera bag. I didn't find much in the way of reviews so I took the plunge and gambled that it would be okay! Also, I am incredibly, incredibly sunburnt. It is a GREAT travel tripod and would highly recommend getting it if you are going on any long trips as it is very light. I would not recommend it if you are using it on unstable surfaces (boats? bridges? windy areas?) as it is stable but not immovable. In short, it works as advertised on the (Canon G-series cameras at least) for the RF remote shutter release, timed delay, bulb mode/long exposure, multiple exposures, etc. The wireless transmitter has a jack to plug the cable into and use as a 'wired' shutter release as well. The instructions do note, however, that the cable has to be plugged into the camera a certain way. Reverse the cable and the camera won't get the signal to release the shutter.The unit has a back-light feature as well, which is handy for setting up the night time compositions, however, the batteries do take a hit from that as well. Which brings me to my first minor gripe with this unit. My main concern was the remote batteries dying out first as it utilizes the standard button cell CR2032 watch type battery. To my surprise, the receiver, which uses the (more expensive) CR2 lithium photo type battery died first. Luckily, it didn't happen during the week-long trip and hundreds of pictures we took with it.
